All About Dr. C.
My name is Cynthia Penalva, but most students call me “Dr. C.”
I am the Student Services Support Specialist at Milam K-8 Center.
I was trained in psychology but received a Master’s and PhD in Family Therapy. While systemic brief therapy continues to be my work and passion, I have fallen in love with counseling in the school setting.
My role in the school is to be a mental health advocate for students who need immediate services throughout the school day. I collaborate with teachers, parents, and faculty to foster an emotionally healthy learning environment for students.
It is my honor and privilege to offer support by providing brief counseling, coping skills, and interventions to students in need .
I am the Mental Health Club sponsor of “Mindful Mondays,” a club that helps students process their thoughts and emotions in a healthy way.
A little about me: I have a pup named Wall-E (Wally) who keeps me pretty busy. I love the Harry Potter franchise and I am a bona fide Disney adult.
My wish for the upcoming school year is that students will have a well-rounded and successful year. I hope that I can be helpful to you as you navigate through challenges pertaining to mental health. It is my belief that mental health is just as important as your physical health.
If you need me, my office is in the MLC office
